Default 7.3 help

working on a 97 psd i hooked an fuel pressure gauge to it and the truck is only idealing at 10 psi. at WOT it goes to 8 psi. Truck fills like your pulling a danm d12 dozer until it gets to about 2500 rpm then does ok but still very laggy. Its got the factory fuel pump on it which i will be changing tommorw due to a leak. The pump thats going back on it will be a carter. Is there anything eles i can do. Also what should these trucks ideal at.

I don't know much about the fuel systems as I sold mine before I got to the fuel - but make sure all fuel filters are replaced.. I do know the the HPOP helps with oil pressure to fire the injectors.. not sure where the PSI come from or is read.. but I am sure someone around here will

Airdog makes a pump that will replace both fuel pumps on it... id say 13-17 psi would be acceptable for fuel psi at idle !

As stated you will want to check the filter(s) first but the pressure should be more like 45+ at idle. My 02 ran 55-60 at idle.

Sounds like a fuel pump gone bad to me. They do make several replacements so your goals and budget would be the determining factor.

fuel psi should be 45-65 psi on your obs... and fluctuate/bounce the fuel psi gauge while at idle.. the lift pump is in the valley of the motor, unless it has been modified.

Hopefully you get her figured out.. I have seen them run on low psi like this... try to get it fixed asap...

fuel psi still is low... if you have a new pump on there... do you have an inlet restriction to the pump some how, restricting fuel flow...??

IMHO you don't HAVE to do the in tank mods at this level but it may be worth looking at. The inlet may be damaged or blocked in some way. While you are there you can do the hutch and the tank mods.

I just got back from work and i drive about 350 miles one way. I stay down during the week and get off on thursday to come back home. The truck never got over 7 psi and felt just like a dog. I try to pass someone and it took me 3 miles to get past them. This weekend is a long weekend so im hoping i can track it down before i head back down on monday night
